The fear and guilt that religion tries so ruthlessly to inflict.

Dear Editor,

Life and death decisions are not the province of religion.  But we can fully expect the loud and shrill voice of parishioners condemning an expected PBAC decision to subsidise RU486 (The Advertiser, 26/4/13).

Their denial of the most basic “freedom of choice” ignores totally the dilemma most women face in deciding to abort.  It’s the most personal decision a woman can make and one that should not be complicated by the fear and guilt that religion tries so ruthlessly to inflict.

Religious prejudice should not dominate public opinion on this highly emotional issue.  There needs to be a financially accessible and legal option for women to choose for themselves the action they wish to take.
